A trip to Coney Island

An evening trip to an iconic pizzeria & ice cream parlor and the biggest amusement park at the southern tip of Brooklyn, NY.

But first, pizza.

Walking up to L&B Spumoni Gardens feels like when you are walking into a beer garden/outdoor ice cream parlor to catch up with close friends, or sit down and mingle with a stranger picnic style.

With a 4th of July atmosphere, the restaurant welcomes both the sweet & savory tooth.  It opened prior to World War II and was mainly known for their Spumonis (tri-colored and tri-flavored, layed, ice cream with candied fruit and nuts).  Today, it is mainly known for its pizzeria, particularly its square slices.

Although we loved both slices, the square slice was ultimately our favorite. The flavor and quantity of cheese and sauce were exceptional and perfect. As we are strongly ‘texture people’, the crust has a great crunch and is well-seasoned that you most definitely will not leave it behind. With the vast amount of crowd and demand, the odds of you getting a fresh slice are also very high!

We did not try the Spumoni ice cream this time, as we were extremely full from just the incredible pizza. All the more reason to go back! Trust us when we say that this place is a gem for affordable top-notch pizza in NYC.  We each had 2 slices and a non-alcoholic beverage for ony $15!

Less than a 10-minute drive away is the famous Coney Island and Luna Park.  The travel to the park suddenly transforms from a quiet residential area to a jovial carnival atmosphere.

The family-friendly boardwalk has many shops and restaurants, including the World Famous Nathan’s s hot dogs stand.  The Cyclone Roller Coaster was built in the 1920s and is named one of New York City’s history landmark.
Down the boardwark, you will also spot the contemporary and nostaligic Brooklyn Cyclone Baseball field. You can walk through Luna Park to just enjoy the crowd and atmosphere, or pay for a pass to hop on the rides.

There is also a pier that extends into the ocean where crowds had their own parties and dancing. Every Friday night during the summer they have fireworks that light up the sky. It truly is a great way to spent time with your child, or even a way to find your own inner child!

New York – somehow in your hustle & bustle, you offer so much serenity & beauty.  No wonder why we have a #NewYorkLoveAffair.

Until our next STLLRventure,

A & A
